A Different Kind of Christmas

This year was my first Christmas after making a deep commitment to myself.
My commitment was simple, but not easy: to be as healthy as I possibly can be as I head into the last fifty years of my life. That means truly fueling my body with the best possible food and abstaining from what no longer serves me—ultra-processed foods, sugar, and alcohol.
For many people, this probably sounds too strict. Ridiculous, even. We’re often told that “balance” means indulging during the holidays and then just getting back on track afterward.
But for someone with food addiction, getting back on track is the problem.

For me, indulging in the foods I used to eat simply isn’t worth it. It reawakens patterns I’ve worked hard to heal. And the truth is, I’m not deprived. I’m nourished. I’m satisfied. My brain has rewired itself to crave the foods that truly fuel my body optimally.
And here’s the part that matters most:
I had an awesome Christmas.
I spent meaningful time with my family. I interacted with friends. I experienced the peace and joy that Christmas is actually about—without food guilt, without overindulgence, and without needing to escape discomfort.
Now on the other side—Boxing Day—I’m already looking ahead to the New Year. I’m thinking about the next growing season, the greenhouse, the farm, and everything we have going on.
And for the first time, I notice something profound.
I don’t feel guilt.
I don’t feel remorse.
I don’t feel like I need to purge, detox, or “make up” for anything.
That’s freedom.
And it’s proof that healing your relationship with food isn’t about willpower—it’s about alignment, nourishment, and choosing yourself every single day.

The Heart Behind Fisherville’s Finest
This journey is deeply woven into the mission behind Fisherville’s Finest.
The work we do—growing nutrient-dense, nourishing food, offering our CSA program to the community, and my decision to become a nutritional therapist—didn’t happen by accident. It all came from my own journey of trying to heal the body God gave me… a body I admittedly didn’t always take care of.
That journey changed everything.
What started as a personal pursuit of healing became a calling. I truly believe I have found both my passion and my purpose. Not only to grow and provide healing food, but also to share my experience, to educate, and to empower others.
My goal is to motivate and encourage people to understand that healing is possible. That their health is not out of their control. That the body has an incredible capacity to heal when it’s given what it was designed to thrive on.

This is about more than food.
It’s about stewardship.
It’s about honoring our bodies.
And it’s about living the full, vibrant life our Creator intended for us.
